Tutoring Costs
Sliding Scale Tuition Fee
PLC’s Sliding Scale Tuition Fee for literacy tutoring services is a way to charge families based on their ability to pay, ensuring that our services remain accessible while still generating revenue to help cover program costs.
This revenue policy was adopted at Palmetto Literacy Council by its Board of Directors to help sustain the program. Our program is very much in demand, and our Board and staff want it to remain a program that everyone is proud to be associated with.
The Sliding Scale Tuition Fee is effective for all students screened after August 31, 2025. Students screened prior to this date will remain tutored for free. opportunities are available at the Palmetto Literacy Council and we are always looking for more tutors.
Purpose
- Keep tutoring accessible for students from all backgrounds while still contributing to operational sustainability.
- Not everyone pays the same rate - those with lower incomes pay less or nothing at all, while those with higher incomes pay more.
How It Works
- Income brackets: Palmetto Literacy Council has established specific household income ranges that are assigned a discounted rate based on Federal Poverty Levels. Click here to see these ranges.
- Verification: Families fill out the Sliding Fee Application (select form below) and submit financial documents such as tax returns or pay stubs to PLC staff. PLC staff will discuss the fee category for each student with the parents or guardians prior to the start of tutoring.
- Payment: Tuition payments will be due each month on the 1st of the month. PLC accepts checks, debit cards and charge cards. Payments may be made online - click here. Tuition is due the month that tutoring begins with the tutor and student.
- PLEASE NOTE: All income and fee arrangements are confidential and will not be shared with anyone outside of Palmetto Literacy Council.
