Julius Forte, New CCU Intern, Joins PLC for the Summer of 2024

Picture of Julius ForteJulius Forte, a marketing major from Coastal Carolina University, has joined the team at Palmetto Literacy Council, for an internship – a needed part of his graduation requirements – and a boon to PLC.

The internship is through the RISE program (Resilience, Innovation, and Sustainability through Education. His internship, full-time through mid-July, is funded by CCU, the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce and PLC.

From New Jersey (via Staten Island), Julius’ college career began at CCU, the first time he had been to the Myrtle Beach area. “I grew up spending summers at the beach, so it’s nice to go to college in a coastal area,” he said.

“We are thrilled to have Julius Forte joining us as a summer intern,” said Dr. Dodi Hodges, executive director of the Palmetto Literacy Council. “We’re grateful to Coastal Carolina University and the Myrtle Beach Area Chamber of Commerce for helping to provide the means to make this happen. Though Julius has been here only a short time, he’s shared some excellent ideas with me, and I think he’s going to bring a lot to the table to benefit PLC,” she said.

Julius Forte has been assigned and completed a draft marketing plan, is learning the donor management software program, Network for Good.
There’s more coming, according to Dodi.

Julius sat in on a recent fundraising committee meeting and was impressed by what he saw. “It was an interesting process and good to see how it works. It was awesome to see everyone collaborate, knowing that these people are all volunteers.

Julius is still unsure where his marketing major will take him after he graduates next year. “I’m like a blank slate. In marketing, there are so many avenues to go down. I hope I’ll find my way after interning with PLC and graduating with my degree,” he said.

Julius’ interests include reading history, basketball, fishing, and hiking. Just how much he’ll be able to engage in those activities is anyone’s guess. Between working full-time at PLC, and summer classes (decision analysis, accounting, and homework), the PLC staff may need to install an outdoor basketball hoop on the side of the building!

If you can, stop by the office and welcome Julius Forte to PLC!
