PLC Adult Team Spelling Bee for 2026

The 2nd Annual Adult Spelling Bee was held on Saturday, March 7th at BlueWater Resort. Event Sponsors included Mr. Sparky/Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, Taneisha Gore of Edward Jones, and South Atlantic Bank. Teams included 11 paid teams and 3 sponsored teams, for a total of 14. The event netted $8,005.76. (See attached report)

Spelling Bee 2026 winnersThe winning team was Queen Bees of the Inlet, which Board Member Bonnie Kelley sponsored. 

The following awards were given to teams for their participation:

Best Team Name: Alpha-Bits (Bobbie Lipman/WMBF)

Most Creative Team: The B Team 

Team Most Likely to Need a Tutor – Sparky Bees (Mr. Sparky/Benjamin Franklin)

Pictures of the PLC 2026 Adult Spelling BeeSpelling Bee committee member Penny Gardin Lewis served as the event Timer. Wake Up with Beth and Ruthie’s Ruthie LeMay acted as the Stinger Queen who collected the Hive Cards from teams, and music for the Spelling Bee was provided by Beth Simmons, Promotions Director of DBA Radio Stations of Myrtle Beach.

Sam Schelle, Orchestra Manager & Youth Symphony Manager from Long Bay Symphony, served as the event’s official “Gongalier” who gonged Teams who misspelled words.

Jeannette Dubanoski chaired the Auction/Raffle subcommittee and worked alongside Corrina Hutcherson coordinating both the auction and raffle during the event. Kaitlyn Ingram served as the Bartender for the event, and volunteer Monica Atkins helped as barback. Staffers Joanne Cherry and Cheryl Farria, along with volunteers Toni-Marie D’Ambrosio, Diane Rumfelt and Gail Arsenault manned the registration desk.
